Everything You Need To Know About Acne

During adolescence and a person’s teenage years, many things plague minds. In this time, people are most self conscious and constantly worry about how they look and how they present themselves. The last thing they need during this time is something else to worry about. Well, that doesn’t work out very well, as an estimated 85% of teens develop acne in some form, whether mild or severe. Acne is usually caused by an increase in male sex hormones, which both genders develop. Acne develops due to blockage in the follicles, and causes the pores of the skin to be blocked.
Oil that is then to be drained to the surface is instead blocked. This causes bacteria to grow, and thus comes the development of acne. White heads and blackheads both start out the same way. When the oil (sebum) is completely trapped under the surface, a white head is formed. It starts out as a tiny white spot. When a pore opens to the surface, and the oil partially gets out, the rest of it becomes oxidized and then turns black, thus the name blackhead. These can take a very long time to go away.
Both white heads and blackheads are classified as non-inflammatory acne. There is also a form called inflammatory acne, which include papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. A papule occurs when there is a break in the pore wall. Then what happens is white blood cells rush in which inflames it. Several days later, a pustule forms when white blood cells get to the surface. This is called a pimple. If any of these explodes, it can form a nodule and/or a cyst. When a follicle breaks, a large lump appears that can hurt. A cyst is a reaction, which causes large pus filled lesions.
Most of the time, acne does not continue into adulthood. Most people have gotten rid of it in their teen years and it is a problem they no longer have to think about ever again. But that is the better side of the story. Some people have this condition well into adulthood, and it is not extremely rare to see fully grown adults well into there 40s still have the condition. These are the exception, not the rule.
Another variation of Acne vulgaris is milia. These are tiny white bumps that usually occur on a person’s face. People mostly see these on newborns, but they can also be found on adults. These are caused by cells that get trapped in small portions across the surface of the skin. The bumps usually go away when new skin is formed and old dead skin is disposed of. These can be removed by a doctor for visual purposes, but is not necessary unless someone really, really can not stand the sight of them. That may not be common, though, since milia can go away in as little as a few weeks. However, some adults do have milia that do not go away. We can be thankful that acne is not particularly dangerous to our health, and usually goes away.
