Death is an inescapable reality all of us have to eventually confront, but planning the funeral of a family member can still be very unnerving. However, you have to admit the loss that you have met with and be ready for making the appropriate funeral service arrangements for the departed. Nearly all funeral homes offer their services related to making funeral preparations and they can provide you assistance, but you must know some things as well.
The dead person's life and beliefs are reflected in the funeral and therefore, it is important to conduct it properly. There is a standard pattern which most funeral services adhere to, and any change would normally depend on specific religious and cultural preferences of the departed and his or her family members.
The very first phase of a funeral service can extend from a couple of hours to many days and it is known as visitation. In this, relatives and acquaintances get together in memory of the dead person. This is succeeded by the formal funeral service, which may be held in the chapel of the mortuary, or a church of your choice, or even at any other location which the deceased person had an attachment for. A hearse or funeral coach would need to be booked if the funeral is to be held in an outdoor venue.
Once this is done, the family and others move to the cemetery for the next stage of the funeral. This can be managed by a clergyman or any close relative of the deceased, based on the family's choice. Certain issues need to be focused on at this stage involving the person leading the service, whether some favourite items of the deceased will be shown, and the type of flowers used.
The final phase of the proceedings is the burial, and the site for it can be any spot as per the preference of the family members or of the dead person. The dead person can be buried in plots owned by the family or in mausoleums, or be cremated after which their ashes can be spread where they had desired.
