Writing Articles - How To Write Successfully

Every job requires certain skills and the task of writing articles is no different. Being in possession of the requisite skills ensures success in the form of increased readership, appreciation for your written work and acknowledgement that you are good at what you do. That being said there’s no reason why anyone and everyone can’t develop the skill of writing articles whether that is for the online media, or the more traditional print media.
To be good at your chosen field of work however, requires that you be aware of the basics that are involved. These basics include your language skills, your research skills and the general writing environment (which can differ depending on the type of articles you’ll be writing – think technical articles, how-to articles, SEO-centered articles, press releases, newspaper articles, etc) of the kind of writing field you’ve chosen to enter, to name a few.
Your language skills are primary to any type of writing and therefore form the very core of your writing career. A good article writer is one who’s known to have a distinct style of writing, is articulate, has a firm foundation of grammar and a vast vocabulary that’s distinctly above the mediocre. Add to these basic skills, the advanced ones of adaptability, (to both the audience and the type of writing), imagination and dedication to his craft. While the basic skills listed ensure that you get off to a good start in the field of article writing, the advanced skills ensure that you keep honing your skills by learning and experimenting in order to reach greater heights and to avoid stagnation.
To attain these basic and advanced skills isn’t impossible, even if you weren’t born in a native English-speaking country. Taking a course in grammar or studying it individually online, adding to your vocabulary and taking a short course in the specific type of writing you intend to do, can go a long way in helping you build your basic skills. Once you lay claim to these skills, attaining the advanced skills is just a matter of motivation and dedication.
A good way to develop your writing skills, once you’ve built a firm foundation, is to write about various topics and submit them to websites that post articles for free. Pick out a well-known website that frequented by many and you’ll soon find yourself receiving feedback in the form of comments related to your articles.
Read all the comments you receive carefully and if you find any feedback worth incorporating, don’t hesitate to do so. Don’t let it disturb you if people seem to be reacting strongly to your articles. Instead, take it as a compliment. The fact that your writing has managed to evoke emotions, even if they’re “negative” does show that you’re on the right track. Such comments could also throw up instances that reveal the adequacy of your research as well. Also read articles written by well-known writers to see what you can pick up.
And last but not the least, make sure your write-up is well researched. At the end of the day, a good writer is one who has something to write about and does so with all the facts and figures in hand, articulated to impress upon the readers, the main point of the article.
